How to Become a real estate property Agent in California?

It is hard to find a realtor in California and people might struggle finding good one. How about if you had considered becoming a realtor?

The following are requirements for becoming a real estate agent in California:

Before we go through the process. Let's cover a few general criteria that need to be met to obtain a license for real estate in California. It is a good idea to be aware of  requirements before you start paying for any preparation or testing.

  • You must be at least 18 years' old
  • Must be a California resident, see the State Applicants

Conviction of a crime may result in the refusal of a license. Failure to report any criminal infringement or disciplinary action  through the applicant can result in rejection or revocation of a license.

Get a training course for real estate agents in California to prepare for the test

California requires 135 hours of property investment education. These are broken down into three "graduate-level courses":
Principles of Real Estate (45 hours)
The practice of real estate (45 hours)

ONE of the following courses (45 hours),

Real Estate Valuation, Property Management, Real Estate Finance, Real Estate Economics, Business Law, escrow accounts, Mortgage Loan Brokering and Lending, Legal Aspects of Real Estate, Real Estate Administration, General Accounting, Computer Applications in Real Estate or Common Interest Innovations

The final test

The real estate agent must pass the examination test:
150 multiple-choice questions
3 hours, 15 minutes to end.

Needs a score of 70 percent (105 valid questions) to be passed
Testing is usually performed in San Diego, Sacramento, Fresno, Los Angeles, and Oakland.

Applying for your California real estate license

Your non-refundable application can be filed either after you complete your real estate exam or at the same time.  Besides, a submission for a live scan (fingerprinting) must be made.

If you plan to apply after completing your exam, you will have 1 year from the date of the examination to submit your application to the California Department of Real Estate.

The cost of the real estate property license in California is broken down into two parts: government fees and school fees. For this post, we will only cover these things concerning the initial issuance of a real estate agent license (not a broker, renewal, etc.)

As a reminder, all fees are valid at the time of writing of this article and may have changed since then. The expense of a standard California property license (minus school fees as they vary). Exceptions are often made and the expense can well surpass these figures.
